Intensification of the digital marketing strategy to maximize sales

Description
Cuddly red noses on digital paths
How Köhler Kunsthandwerk survived the coronavirus crisis
Company presentation:
The cuddly figurines from the Köhler Kunsthandwerk manufactory have become firmly established in the Erzgebirge arts and crafts scene over the past few decades. The red-nosed Santas, friendly well-wishers and round goblins are at home in numerous living rooms and have long been known beyond their home region. Behind these unmistakable originals is a manufactory that puts its heart and soul into creating elaborate handicrafts. Founded in 1989 by Björn Köhler, the creator of the figurines, it is now an established, solid and family-friendly company with a good 40 employees.
Challenge
The three months leading up to Christmas are traditionally the high season of the year in the Erzgebirge arts and crafts sector. The industry generates around 75% of its annual turnover during this period. The most important source of sales is the bricks-and-mortar trade: shoppers can view the figurines in stores and gain an impression of the effect and quality of the craftsmanship. In addition, around 50% of the target group for the products is not online-savvy and prefers the traditional point of sale for purchases. Christmas markets are another important sales channel in the run-up to Christmas. A not inconsiderable proportion of annual production is handled in city centers and at cultural events. In 2020, the year of the pandemic, the most important sales channels for Erzgebirge folk art collapsed without replacement, especially during the strongest sales period. Sales outlets had to close and events were canceled. This posed existential challenges for both manufacturers and retailers due to the significant slump in sales.
Solution
The company Köhler Kunsthandwerk has been working in partnership with w3work for 10 years. A digital marketing strategy has been developed and perfected together since 2011. The successful cooperation was characterized by the fact that marketing goals were jointly developed, discussed and systematically implemented year after year. As a result, Köhler Kunsthandwerk already had a powerful partner store, search engine advertising measures and its first points of contact with social networks before the coronavirus crisis. Building on this basis, advertising measures were scaled up and intensified at very short notice when the pandemic began. At the heart of this was the desire to use digital media to contact target groups that could not be reached due to business closures and the loss of markets and to encourage them to buy the products.
The following measures were used for this purpose:
- The presence on social networks was expanded. While there was previously only a fan page on Facebook, the Instagram and Pinterest networks now complement the manufactory's activities and reach end customers directly through advertising campaigns. Store feeds ensure that products shown in the posts can be purchased directly in the store with just a few clicks. An ever-increasing number of followers also forms the basis for further marketing activities and a friendly exchange with fans.
- Existing customer contacts were activated by several email newsletters and informed about new products and promotions. Insights from the manufactory and stories about the figurines rounded off the content of the mailings.
- The SEA strategy was intensified and supplemented with advertising campaigns on branding and specific figurine groups. Campaigns targeting international buyers were tested. Improved tracking of activities on Google now reports the exact sales figures for all campaigns and allows conversions and sales to be continuously optimized. In this way, every euro invested in marketing achieves the maximum return.
Results
Combined with the SEO strategy that had already been implemented, these activities made it possible to almost compensate for the Corona-related loss of sales and to significantly increase the turnover of the web store.
KÖHLER KUNSTHANDWERK ABOUT W3WORK
We chose w3work as a partner for the implementation of our web presence years ago mainly because of the physical proximity and short distances. We quickly realized that this decision was also the right one in other respects: cooperation at eye level, contact persons available at all times, a fair and transparent cost model and much more are advantages that we have not wanted to do without since then. So it was only logical to place the implementation of our store in the hands of w3work as well: with success, in our opinion. Our turnover has increased many times over in just a few years - and especially in the crazy coronavirus year 2020, we were able to count on the agency's support at all times, so that we could concentrate on manufacturing our beautiful products with a clear conscience.

FAZIT
Shopping has been increasingly digital for years. The coronavirus pandemic has given this digitalization a special boost. Due to the closure of retail and wholesale stores, consumers are switching to e-commerce. The use of intelligent online marketing allows store operators to make their own online store known to as many consumers as possible and significantly increase sales. Even with the end of the pandemic, changing shopping habits will remain and continue to boost business via the web store.

Competent team with a sophisticated price/performance ratio.
0Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding regarding the services included in our webshop maintenance packages. As it is very important to us to meet our customers' expectations, we spoke to Ms. Otto about the reasons for her assessment. After all, our aim is for our pricing and services to be clear, transparent and at eye level, rather than "sophisticated". We regret the misunderstandings and have used Ms. Otto's suggestions to further improve our processes and avoid such discrepancies in the future.
M8 has been cooperating with w3work since 2021. What's so much fun about it is that there are so many wonderful and friendly people working at w3work who care so much about helping customers move forward in e-commerce. This also means that w3work does a lot for the region, has many customers in the region and looks after them with passion. Our cooperation is based on honesty, trust, reliability and mutual appreciation. Thus, not only M8 and w3work benefit from each other, but especially our customers from a lot of expertise and experience. Thank you dear team of w3work. I hope we can continue to find solutions for our customers together for a long time.
